Children attend elementary schools in the Santee School District for kindergarten through 8th grade and teens attend high schools within the Grossmont High School District.

In recent years the 52 freeway and the San Diego Trolley have been extended to Santee and the city has built a retail center around Trolley Station in the downtown area which includes a Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Ross, Office Depot, Target and a New City Hall.
