Central San Diego

San Diego County is as unique a place as you'll find anywhere in the United States. Covering 4,255 square miles, roughly 73 miles (East-West) by 58 miles (North-South), San Diego is about half the size of Israel and Massachusetts, twice the size of Delaware, and three times as large as Rhode Island. Size, however, can be misleading. Over 90% of all San Diego residents live in towns and cities within twenty miles of the coast. As you move inland, the temperature rises significantly and the terrain becomes steep.

San Diego is located roughly along the same latitude as Phoenix, Dallas, and Charleston, South Carolina. Its idyllic climate and propensity towards sunny weather encourages outdoor activity by its residents where biking, hiking, jogging, tennis and golf are year-round, daily events. San Diego claims over 88 golf courses.

North County Coastal

San Diego's North County Coastal region is one of the most beautiful areas in Southern California. Sun- and sea-worshippers congregate in coastal La Jolla, Del Mar, and Solana Beach, where migrating California gray whales can be seen in winter. Along with its ideal climate, the housing opportunities in North San Diego County are vast and varied--ranging between entry level condominiums and town-homes to elegant oceanfront estates.

Attractions in the North County Coastal area include the Stephen Birch Aquarium-Museum at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, the stunning Torrey Pines State Reserve and Beach, and the Del Mar Racetrack for horse racing.

Horticulturists delight in the flowers of Encinitas and Leucadia and the 3,000 species at the Quail Botanical Gardens. In Carlsbad, see the mineral springs and quaint seaside downtown area, or golf on the many excellent courses.

North County Inland

One of San Diego's fastest growing areas is in the North County Inland region. Known as San Diego's best place for "families", this area boasts some of the best housing, employment and schooling opportunities in the County.

Attractions in the North County Inland area include the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Rancho Bernardo Inn Resort and golf course and Lake Hodges.

East County

Almost every city in San Diego boasts that it has the perfect climate. For much of San Diego's East County, that argument has some substance. Far enough away from coastal fog, yet close enough to get the cooled by the Pacific, San Diego's East County has less swings in temperatures year-round.

East County San Diego holds plenty of open land and is the most spacious of all area in the county. In fact, much of San Diego's East County has been left in ranches, Indian reservations and parks.

Attractions in East County San Diego include San Diego State University, several of the counties top Indian casinos, and the city of Julian - home of the best apple pies in the world.
