NATIONAL CITY REAL ESTATE

National City, located south of downtown San Diego, is an older city incorporated in 1887. There is a good choice of entry level housing within National City, especially near downtown.

West side of the city fronts along the San Diego Bay where many industries and businesses connected with the Navy are located.

Home prices and rent are lower than in other communities so it attracts newcomers, immigrants and people of modest means. Towns like National City often have struggling schools and, in some neighborhoods, troubling crime. National City does have some strong pluses, namely two shopping malls (Plaza Bonita and South Bay Plaza ) hotels and auto dealerships. National City boasts of a new police station, civic center, a 150 slip marina and is clearing away older buildings for a hotel restaurant complex. A new library is scheduled to open in 2005.

National City is five miles from downtown San Diego with two freeways, trolleys and buses offering transportation access.
